At GIC we want you to do more than just go to your classes and study. This is why we have a full programme of academic support and social and cultural activities for you to participate in. They are aimed at supporting your academic studies and helping you make friends, have fun and experience the UK to the fullest.
Clubs, societies and Social Events
At GIC and GU (the University of Glasgow) there is a club and society for every interest that students can join. It’s a great way to make friends, socialise with GU and GIC students and be part of a team – at GIC, some examples of the clubs & activities we’ve organised are:
- Tea club
- Singing and music
- Football
- Chess
- Debating
You can take out membership at the GU sports centre and join any of their 40 sports clubs – find out more about these at www.gla.ac.uk/services/sport/clubsport/
You can also join cultural or special interest groups at GU - there are over a 100 of them! They are run by students and are great way to meet other students in Glasgow with similar interests and hobbies as you. Find out more about these at www.glasgowstudent.net/clubs/affiliated/

Social Events
We organise day trips and events throughout the year. Take a look at some of the pictures here to see what our students have been doing recently.
Academic and Learning skills
If you think that you need some extra support with your maths or want to know the meaning of the science vocabulary in your seminars, GIC Academic staff offer workshops and sessions to support all areas of your learning. These include
- Pronunciation
- Presentations
- Informal & Formal English
- Maths Support
- Science & Engineering Vocabulary
- Exam Revision
Welfare and Advice
We know that it can be quite difficult to work out how to apply for a new visa or get a job in the UK so we have many different drop-in sessions and information sessions to answer your queries, for example:
- How to renew my visa
- Volunteering
- Private accommodation
- Working in the UK
Student Services staff are also available to help with your questions and will be happy to help.
What our students say
“The environment, the culture, the ceilidh’s, the things you learn about the college is really, really beneficial to us – not just academic wise” (Edidiong Etukudo, Pre Master Certificate in Science & Engineering).
“The college also assists you in getting to know your community, organise programmes like the ceilidh which is a Scottish dance where you jump about. It’s exercising but it’s really fun, especially when you are doing it with a lot of friends”. (Edidiong Etukudo, Pre Master Certificate in Science & Engineering).
