Your pathway to a Masters degree at the University of Glasgow

You may need to improve your English language skills before joining one of our Pre-Masters courses in Science and Engineering. We can add a Pre-Sessional English preparation course to your offer automatically if your English language skills require extra work. The below table shows the range of preparatory courses that we provide to meet your specific English language abilities .

*You will need to show proof of English language ability - usually an IELTS test (or equivalent). A higher IELTS score means your course will be shorter and you can progress to the University more quickly.

Prepare For Your Pre-Masters Science studies or an Engineering education

The Pre-Masters in Science and Engineering prepares you for a postgraduate degree course at the University of Glasgow with either a masters level science education or engineering education. Your degree will be taught in the College of Science and Engineering and is the best foundation preparatory course at masters level for these subjects.

The course provides you with an intensive integrated academic science education or you can benefit from an engineering education; advanced level English skills; and high-level study skills.

There are two pathways to choose from:
  • Biomedical Science
  • Engineering

Entry requirements: engineering or science education

The best foundation route for international graduates is the Pre-Masters pathway. In general to pursue a science education or the engineering route on this pre-masters course you will need to have completed a minimum of three years of higher education.

The Best Foundation Pre-Masters Progression Courses

Once you complete this Pre-Masters course and gain either a Pre-Masters in Engineering or a Pre-Masters Science education to the level noted in your offer letter, your admission onto a Masters degree in a related subject area is guaranteed.

Subject Module

Course Outline: 2 Terms*

Students take seven modules, with one module being weighted double.

One core module
  • Aspects of British Culture and Society
Three core academic skills modules
  • Skills for Study 1, 2 and 3.
Three core subject modules
  • Engineering, Science and Society
  • Research Project (double module)
  • Statistical Design for Science and Engineering Research

* Three term courses contain additional English Language modules. Some two term courses may also include additional English Language modules, depending on language level.
